The gallon, divided by halves
US liquid measures double at every step: 2 cups → 1 pint, 2 pints → 1 quart, 2 quarts → half gallon, 2 half gallons → 1 gallon. Slide to fill cups and watch them group.

US vs British sizes
The imperial system uses the same names with bigger containers: the British pint is 20 fl oz (568 ml), the imperial quart 1.137 L and the imperial gallon 4.546 L — about 20% larger than their US counterparts. If a British recipe says “1 pint of milk”, pour 2½ US cups.
Dry quarts and pints (used for berries in US markets) are also slightly larger than liquid ones — a dry quart is 1.101 L — but recipes almost always mean liquid measures.
